Display Energy Certificate

Display Energy Certificate?

A Display Energy Certificate (DEC) shows the energy performance of a building based on actual energy consumption recorded over the last 12 months.

It compares the actual energy use against the energy use for a benchmark building of the same type. Buildings occupied by public authorities and frequently visited by the public, over 250m2 must display a DEC in a prominent place.

How long does a DEC last?

A DEC shows the energy performance of a building based on actual energy consumption for the previous 12 months and must therefore be renewed annually.

How does a DEC differ to a BER?

A DEC is based on the actual, measured energy consumption of the building which includes both regulated and unregulated energy, whereas a Building Energy Rating (BER) is based on predicted energy performance of a building and only includes regulated energy.
